God is satisfied with his works
Gen 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (KJV)
God is Dissatisfied with his works
Gen 6:6 and it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (KJV)
Ok, this one is relatively easy… I mean, can you all see it already? First of all, in Gen 1 it says he saw everything, and it was good. Notice they used the word “was” not is. Interesting is it not, that even then, it has at least the hint that it is not now, “good” Now look at the word good. It is actually the Hebrew word Tob {pronounced tobe} which means beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, at ease. So yes. In the beginning, before ANYTHING but creation of earth has happened, things were not bad off. Can anyone disagree?Lastly for the first verse, notice that it never says… “And God was satisfied with his work”. Granted, we might be able to assume, and even safely assume that yes, God was pleased. But we must remember, that this is just an assumption, and not actually written in scripture. And since the author in question says that the “scripture” contradicts itself, we cannot use assumption as an argument, we must look at what the scripture actually says. Now, Gen 6. Let me start with the end of the last verse… it never actually SAYS God is dissatisfied. and in fact… if we use a little common sense, we would know that God sees the end from the beginning… and so at best, we can assume, that God saw everything was on the track, as he foresaw it, and as it was moving according to His plan, that would at least imply some measure of satisfaction. At this point he might not be happy, and in fact, we see he was not… but happiness is different than satisfaction as well. Now look at the words used. In Gen 1 it says God (Elohim) said it was good (not I am satisfied, remember?) but in 6:6 it is the LORD (YHWH) who is grieved, and has a repentant heart. Now we must remember that God is 3 separate parts, in the same unified being. I will let you look further into these names, to see what God speaks to you about it; I just wanted to point it out.Now look at the time frame. yes… in the Bible it is 6 chapters later, but if you look at he time line 6:6 happened about 1,500 years AFTER Gen 1. ALLOT of time has passed… so it was not like God says… YAY everything is good, and then… oh wait… darn I lied, I was wrong this stinks. 1,500 years of Man slapping an almighty God in the face (so to speak) might just be enough for God to say… wow… this is getting old. And indeed… it turns out it was indeed enough.Next we must look at one word I even overlooked until now. It’s the second word in the sentence… the word “it”. “It” repented the Lord. So the question SCREAMS to be asked… what is “IT”? Mr. Burr (the author of the book “Self-contradictions of the Bible” where these are being taken from) would have us believe “IT” is God’s work… i mean… “IT” would HAVE to be “God’s work” for Mr. Burr’s theory to hold up, would it not? But the “it” that grieved God was not in fact his work… but is found a verse before Genesis 6:6 Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. the “it” was that man continually chooses Evil over the Good of God. God was not upset at what he created, but how that creation kept insisting on choosing to love and follow the devil, rather than God himself. Now we must also define repent. Repent means to turn, and in this verse we see where he turned. God turned from having a heart of Joy, fellowshipping with his creation, to a heart of sadness that his creation has rejected him. To see his children sinning and hurting themselves hurt him… parents, would it not hurt you? God the one who loves infinitely, feels betrayed by the ones he loves… would that not grieve you? We can understand here a little bit of what God feels. So we see… These verses are indeed NOT contrary. In the beginning things were the best that they have been since (so far), God says… this state of creation is good, complete; nothing more needs to be done in creation. over the next 1,500 years, there was the first sin (Adam saying he did not want to be ruled by God but ruled by Satan… we can get into that if you have any questions) murder, and other such rebellion, to a place, in chapter 6… Where everything that a person thought in his heart was evil, nothing but evil. It started good; it went downhill by OUR choice, not Gods… So at VERY best… including assumption, we can assume that in the beginning God was satisfied with his work, but after 1,500 years he became dissatisfied at BEST with the way things were GOING with his work, not the work itself, which was completely Adams fault… since he was given dominion OVER that creation. Also, look just a few verses further in chapter 6Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. He looked down, said… this is not going to well… but look… there is still hope… Can one be satisfied and dissatisfied at the same time for the same thing? No. God was satisfied with his work, dissatisfied with the way his work was running things. No where do these two verses contradict each other.
